This talk takes a closer look at two frameworks that champion transformative approaches to design: Metadesign – the design of design, and Socially Responsive Design – that shifts from designing for people to designing with people. Through a manifesto we will explore some projects and practices that are responding to the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century.

Anette Lundebye is a UK-based design thinker, metadesign researcher, educator, facilitator coach and artist. Driven by a strong interest in sustainability and futures, her practice spans academia, industry and the arts in France, Scandinavia, UK and beyond. Collaboration is an important aspect of her work, and she has developed and presented projects with others and as well as her own internationally since 1996. With an expanded perspective on design much of her work aims to challenge and create new frameworks for creative practice. As a researcher on the Metadesign project (2006-2008) at Goldsmiths, University of London she was involved in devising tools, methods and collaborative processes for trans-disciplinary teams, which she continues to develop in different settings.

Since 2009 she has been involved with co-developing SRVD (Socially Responsive Design) projects at Oslo National Academy of the Arts, and has written various articles on these subjects. Alongside her consultancy work she is a lecturer in sustainability and design at Regent’s University London as well as guest lectures at different institutions in London and in Scandinavia. She keeps a blog called Senseness reflecting on perceptions, experiences and relationships with material culture and questions what we value. She also collaborates with the international art collective Foreign Investment. She is also a fellow of the Royal Society of the Arts. Lives and works in London.
