Marko Stamenkovic-Invitation

press to exit project space is pleased to invite you to the lecture

“The South as a Place to look (and maybe to curate)” by art historian, critic and curator Marko Stamenkovic

place of event: Concept 37 (Ruzveltova St., 37, Skopje)
date: Monday, September 9th, at 8 pm

The event is part of the second edition of the international symposium Curating Exchange 2013.

“The South as a Place to look (and maybe to curate)”, envisioned as a long-term project that officially will start with this lecture and workshop in Skopje, is interested in theoretical and practical rethinking of curatorial and artistic work perceived from that place called the “South.” What does it mean to look at the world from the place called the “South,” why is it necessary to think and rethink our work in the contemporary visual art from that particular position, and how does it function in the context of globalization, where the ideas of the so-called global anti-imperial South reside in relation to those of the global imperial North? These are the leading questions around which the lecture and curatorial workshop will revolve during this one-day program.

Additionally, a curatorial workshop on the same subject, conceptualized and lead by Stamenkovic, is organized in order to discuss, in more details, the questions raised above; to identify their potential connections to the local cultural and artistic context; and to outline the upcoming steps towards practical realization of the most fertile ideas emerging from the discussion.
