Residency│Basak Senova is the first visiting curator in 2006. Senova was also part of the Visiting Curatorial Initiative programme in 2005. Her second visit is related to the next phase of her curatorial workshop implemented during the first residency. She was invited to oversee the development and production of the exhibitions Citism and OFF initiated during the workshop.

Production Citism │Curators: Elena Veljanovska, Hristijan Panev and Boris Petrovski. Artists: Neda Firfova, Boris Petrovski and Antonio Dimitrov. Citism is an attempt to detect the unique characteristics of Skopje by defining the codes of the urban language. The artists of the project process their researches through different forms of expressions by using and analyzing graphical languages, projecting special interventions, and processing sound. Each and every form operates to capture unique segments of city life. The project itself synthesizes various forms of expression in the urban context by striving to capture the instant and multilateral ambience of the city. more…

Special project  “cross-meeting 1” │Partners: Basak Senova, NOMAD (TR); Erzen Shkololli, ICA EXIT (KS); Martgarethe Makovec, < rotor> association for contemporary art (A); and press to exit project space (MK) │This was two-days gathering (with open and closed sessions). Its purpose was to enhance various types of collaborative projections, making lead way to a serious of presentations, meetings and discussions.

Production│OFF│Curators: Biljana P. Isijanin and Marjan Denkov│Artists: Nikola Uzunovski, Tihomir Topuzovski, Aleksandra Petrusevska and Vedran Bojanovski (MK) │OFF was shaped by recognizing the value of limitations of any kind. The emphasis was on spatial restrictions, impositions, and reactions by the artists, the curators and the audience, increasing the limitations of the gallery space and tightening the space around the artwork itself. more…

Lecture │Laura Mansfield and Amy Feneck (UK) │Spike Island Art Space Bristol  Mansfield - writer and Feneck - film and video artist, are members of Spike Island an art space in Bristol. Liljana Gjuzelova’s Eternal Recurrence 4 is a video-art piece documenting her performance which took place on the 17th October 2004 on Zajchev Rid. It is the fourth project in the Eternal Recurrence series, and, at the same time, a summary of the previous three: the first one presented in a private house in Magjir Maalo (1997), the second at the Museum of the City of Skopje (2001), and the third at the Open Graphic Art Studio (2003). more…

Screenings │NGO Eko Svest (MK)│Chernobyl+20│On the day of the 20-year anniversary of the Chernobyl catastrophe, Eko Svest presented three movies on the issue of ecology: Sacrifice (23 min), Fallout from Chernobyl (48 min) and Nuclear Controversies (50 min). The presentations of those documentary films were provided by the Dutch foundation XminY Solidariteitsfonds, and the movies are part of the collection of the Dutch foundation Laka.

External activities │Hristina Ivanoska (MK)│Close Connections 2006, Amsterdam (NL) Participation of Hristina Ivanoska, the program advisor of press to exit project space, at the 2nd edition of this international event organized by IZA Foundation and initiated by its director Ellen de Bruijne. The event takes place during the KunstRai, Amsterdam Art Fair for Contemporary Art. Close Connections gives a close look at the contemporary art scene in the Netherlands to the invited guests from all around the worlds (directors of museums or galleries, curators, artists or art critics). For the program IZA Foundation is collaborating with De Appel, W139, Stedelijk Museum Bureau Amsterdam, de Atelier, Rijksakademie etc.

The space is seen as visually and conceptually opposed, interrelated and combined to the intimate narrative within the stories of four different strands of hair.

Using small formats, they are molded in shapes associating to specific holy relicts. This exhibition was previously presented at the Center of Contemporary Art of Montenegro in Podgorica, Cultural Centre of the City in Novi Sad, and Gallery ’73 in Belgrade (SCG).

Initiated by Central Foundation for Future Cities and the School of Missing Studies network. ELF is self supported by its participating members and the Slovenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trust for Mutual Understanding.

Residency│Agnieszka Kurant (PL/FR)│Artist and curator, Agnieszka Kurant (Poland/France) during her residency in Skopje, presented her lecture dedicated on the Anna Sanders Films project focused on her collaboration with Pierre Huyghe, Philippe Parreno, Charles de Meaux and other artists. The exhibition “Double Exit” illustrated her research in limited economics and invisibility of the artworks relating the subliminal to the aspect of economy in art. more…

Lost Highway Expedition

Special project│Lost Highway Expedition (LHE) in Skopje │Lost Highway Expedition is the first event of Europe Lost and Found (ELF), an interdisciplinary and cross-national research project that imagines economic, political and cultural geographies for a future Europe. Initiated by Central Foundation for Future Cities and the School of Missing Studies network. ELF is self supported by its participating members and the Slovenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trust for Mutual Understanding.
This movement of artists, architects and other practitioners will navigate the unstable territory of the Western Balkans, envisioning decentred, non-hierarchical, informal, bottom up, self-generating open source network society, will arrive in Skopje and hosted at press to exit project space.more…

Lecture│ Dr. Jean-Paul Martinon│Curatorial / Knowledge│ His lecture was an attempt to unravel how an exhibition can be interpreted as displaying forms of knowledge. Jean-Paul Martinon has a PhD in art history from Reading University. He is currently a lecturer in Museum Studies and Curatorial Theory in the Department of Visual Cultures at Goldsmiths College, London. He was the co-founder and curator of Rear Window (1991-1998) an independent arts trust that staged a series of exhibitions and conferences in temporary sites across London.

External activity │ Yane Calovski (MK)│ International Conference “Art,Architecture and Recovery│LMCC (Lower Manhattan Cultural Council) New York City (USA). Calovski was invited to speak at this 5th annual international conference focusing on art, architecture and the notion of community rebuilding initiated by one of the most prominent cultural institutions in the USA following the devastating terrorist attack on NYC on September 11, 2001. The issues discussed at the conference pertained on various forms of social and political consequences in societies facing democratic transitions. He discussed the role the art can play in proposing a better cultural and social understanding among people. The focus was placed on the Lost Highway Exhibition and also on press to exit projects pace as a new model of a public art space.

Working Session│ Mrs. Wendy Newman, Director of Trust For Mutual Understanding (USA) │Mrs. Newman whom Yane Calovski had meet in New York City in as part of the LMCC conference, expressed a desire to visit Skopje and press to exit project space and meet with the cultural producers in the city. For that occasion press to exit organized a reception that had a working caracter. Invited institutions and indivudlas included CAC, MSU, Tocka, Museum fo the City of Skopje, The Office for Culture in the City of Skopje, Mala Stanica, The Fine Art Academy, and others.

The aims of the meeting were exchange of information and experience, discussion of current issues in the fields of art, culture and theory, and development of future collaborations among participants. VCI: December 25 - 27, 2006

Research │Marko Stamenkovic (SR) art-e-conomy │An art historian and curator from Belgrade, Stamenkovic gave his first public presentation at press to exit project space introducing the issue of critical curatorial practices in a specific post socialist Eastern European conditions, realized in an attempt to set up the coordinates between transitional economics and contemporary art. The presentation therefore consisted of two activities: a project presentation art-e-conomy: Transitional economics and art theory and practice of contemporary global production, and conducting a series of interviews with cultural producers in the city including Iskra Gesovska (Cultural Centre Tocka), Igor Toshevski (independent artist), Hristina Ivanoska and Yane Calovski (press to exit project space), Aleksandar Kocarev (lawyer and representative of the economic sector).
